  • Profile

Kootenay Health Services is part of the Shift Concussion Management Group (based in Guelph, ON) and offers treatment for acute and chronic post-concussion symptoms. Our concussion clinic involves assessment and treatment for concussion patients with a qualified Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist, and Kinesiologist. The goal is to provide targeted intervention to allow the individual to return to important life role activities such as work, recreation, and sport.

Depending on the patient’s needs, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and kinesiology assessment (s) are available. These assessments consist of comprehensive clinical, neurocognitive and functional testing including standardized assessments such as the IMPACT. Programming would include education and appropriate rehabilitation in the spheres of deficiency such as:

    • Graded return to important life role activities
    • Cognitive Rehabilitation
    • Vestibular Therapy
    • Ocular-Motor Therapy
    • Exertion Based Therapy
    • Manual Therapy

IMPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion and Cognitive Testing) is the most widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion management tool available. Can be completed as a baseline and or post-injury for children and adults.

SWAY: The Sway Balance Test is an FDA-cleared mobile balance testing system that reinvents the way patients and athletes are monitored for signs of balance-related dysfunction.

*Note: Some patients may require services outside of our expertise such as referrals to psychology, psychiatry, neurology, ophthalmology or specialized neuro-ophthalmology and they will be referred back to their family physician for referral to these services.

    Located in: Interior Health Authority.
