    • Profile

The Richmond Therapeutic Equestrian Society (RTES) provides the therapeutic benefits of horseback riding to people with various physical, mental and emotional disorders. While participation in some activities may be denied to people with disabilities, horseback riding can be adapted appropriately in most cases. Reported benefits include improved balance and co-ordination, increased confidence and a sense of achievement.

Once RTRA has received an application and before a rider is accepted into the program, they must first come for an assessment. The assessment appointment helps us determine the riders individual needs such as suitability, class type, physical activity tolerance, mounting technique, volunteer assistance requirements, horse assignment, appropriate equipment, availability and goals. Riders are then placed in any vacancies according to their needs and suitability with the other rider in the lesson. There is no fee for the assessment appointment.

Located in: Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH).
